our story
our story
STAT was launched in 2015 by John Henry, the owner of the Boston Globe, and is part of Boston Globe Media.
Its mission was to cover not only the life sciences in Boston and Cambridge, the U.S. epicenter of this industry, but across the country, and beyond.
That remains its mission today.
Why call it STAT? Stat is an abbreviation of the Latin word “statim,” meaning “immediately,” and is common parlance in medicine. It also reflects the ethos of our publication — providing essential news and analysis quickly, and smartly.
