WASHINGTON — On Monday, health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. gutted the panel of experts that advises the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on vaccines.
That’s put the spotlight on a key Senate Republican health leader who sharply criticized Kennedy’s views on vaccines, then decided to support him anyhow.
Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee Chair Bill Cassidy (R-La.) cast the key vote to confirm Kennedy in February, but only after Cassidy, a doctor, said Kennedy had given him reassurances on vaccines.
